A couple using a surrogate can choose to use their own sperm or eggs, or have both materials donated — this may be the case if both women in a same-sex female couple have unhealthy eggs or both men in a same-sex male couple have low sperm counts.
Adoption
Adoption is a popular method for same-sex couples to have children. If a couple adopts a child, the biological mother and father forfeit all parental rights over the child. However, the guidelines of an adoption can vary greatly depending on each situation. A closed adoption means the adoptive parents and child will never see the birth parents and likely won’t even know who they are, whereas an open adoption allows the birth parents to see or contact the child on a predetermined schedule.
